That was the headline that caught my attention.
When I’m asked which companies exemplify a culture of ethics, Trader Joe’s is always at the top of my list.
Everyone loves shopping there, largely because all the employees appear to love working there. The sense of purpose and camaraderie is infectious, and I’ve never heard of anyone who didn’t enjoy the in-store experience.
But the article by Michael Felsen in The Hill left me scratching my head. Apparently, when employee Ben Bonnema respectfully suggested a few policy tweaks to create a safer environment during COVID, he was fired. This despite a glowing performance review just a few months before.
I’m guessing that Trader Joe’s now regrets the reaction, since the franchise is now facing calls for a nationwide boycott.
